BioMalaysia 2008

Another week has passed by..

Was quite a busy week. Company was involved in BioMalaysia 2008 Exhibition and so was at KLCC from Monday to Thursday.


Overall the event was quite successful. A lot of visitors came to our booth. Some were just curious passer-by while some wish to know more 'dig information' from us. Hehe. Anyway, it was quite an eye-opening event after the WCIT I had in May at the same place. =P

During the WCIT (World Congress on Information Technology), my company display the entire Oil Palm tree. And with that, we won the best booth design competition. This time, the focus was on Jatropha instead of Oil Palm. The only difference between WCIT and BioMalaysia is that the former was more on Information Technology while this time its on Biotechnology. And so, other exhibitors were mostly from research institution, universities as well as other private biotech companies.

As the focus is more on Jatropha, it was decided that life Jatropha plants be displayed. The design of the booth was quite cool. A total of 5 plants were there with 4 of it hanging above. Show you all some pics. =P

Yeah we won the best booth design this time too. =)

One good thing about having exhibition like this is that I do not have to go all the way to Sepang to work HeHe. I get to go to KL which is so much closer and also get to claim for all the expenses like lunch, dinner, etc.. =P

And so I quickly take the opportunity to eat for free... =p But I am also a very good employee. I will try my best to help company save cost and so only manage to eat at the food court =/

So that is more or less what I ate for the remaining days except the days where I get to attend the networking cocktail and also the official dinner HaHaHA. =P

So what are my contributions for this time event? During the WCIT, I was new that time and so did nothing much except for preparing exhibits and taking care of booth. However, this time around, I get to do more things HeHe.

Yeah... all my hard work =). During break time get to walk around and take beautiful pictures of the park. So nice HeHe. I actually kind off like city life HaHa....

And so, did not work on Friday. Break. HeHe...
During the weekend as usual, did went clubbing but only on Friday night this time. Become a good boy already. =) That night met up with some friends there.. ordered quite a lot of beer, drink till so high.. HeHe.. but still okay... never get drunk. =)

On Saturday went for dinner with my former uni mates. The Princess had a business training in KL and so manage to meet up with her and Mr. S. HaHa. Had dinner at Mr. S restaurant. So nice the food. Thanks Mr. S =) My treat next time. LOL

After dinner thought of going clubbing again. But no 'Kaki' that time so only manage to drink some beer and see people play MahJiang at friend's place HeHe. Went back home that night.

Sunday did nothing at all. Slept whole day. LOL

And thats about it for my entire week. Heard that another exhibition will be coming up at the same place soon. Aih, need to work hard again HaHaHa.

Morning Post =|

Hi, Good Morning.. =p

I am now blogging from my office. Got up real early this morning to send a friend to airport. Will only be seeing each other again next year. (Counting Down Now) =D Hopefully, all of us in the gang will gather again and CLUB CLUB CLUB!!
as usual... Hehe...

Come to think about it, I have been sending a lot of friends to airport every time they leave. From secondary school friends till college and university. And of course, it will be a little emotional each time Hehe. But I guess it is normal. People come and go. As time goes by, one will meet more new friends along the way.

Sometimes I do envy those that are leaving to other places. I always think when it will be my turn. Not that I do not like it here, it is just the longing to go to other places, to see different way of life, to meet interesting people of different cultures. Come on, the world is so big, I have to see it.. And I better do it when I am still 'young' Haha..

And YES! I envy envy envy those who gets to travel. Hehe..

Time passes very quickly when you are doing something routine. eg. working? XD

Haha.. Working life is good when you can learn a lot.. Besides giving you insights and knowledge, it helps to shape your perspective. I have to say that I have learn quite a lot since I started working. My direct superior is a very nice person. Not too much work given to me but guidance and plenty of 'spaces' for me to explore and learn myself. =p Thank You.

But I guess experience is important too and one can only gain that through time.

And so, it has been 4 months since I started. It will be 2 more months before the assessment and confirmation. =p

On current event, the Beijing Olympic 2008 has just concluded. As expected, nothing less from China. The opening and closing ceremony was wonderful Haha.. Almost perfect. I don't really watch the sports. More interested in the ceremonies, medal count, stuff like that... Haha...

Anyway, overall, I thought that the Game was a good opportunity for China to showcase herself to the world. And she did =)

China is definitely in my travel list Hahaha...
I MUST learn Mandarin =/

And also, my graduation is coming very soon. =)

And also not to forget, might be going for some short trip maybe in the year end. Some places near, like Thailand. =p But have to save money first luu.. =p Still in the planning stage.

Hmm, I think that is all for now, as I half blog and half working and also chatting, it is already 10am now. My friend who left this morning will be reaching very soon. Hainan only ma.. so close.. Haha..

Hi there... it has been 1 week now since I started working...

Nothing much to do for now as the place is still new.. this division is still new...

Anyway will be expecting more people to be based in this station... the more the merrier hehe..

As for now, its all about learning the basic stuff about the plants... Jatropha curcas.. =p

Tired

Phew.. today was one long hectic day...

Got out from the house at 8am to have breakfast with my mother... followed her to the pasar, bought stuff and bla bla bla... went to the bank to reactivate my account. Apparently, my account was being neglected too long and became inactive thus the ATM service is not usable.

Reach home at 11 something... decided to go out again by my own to check out my working location in Sepang. Wanted to find out a few days ago but keep procrastinating. =p Have to report to work on Friday and this is what forced me to go look for it hehe...

Spend two hours driving on the road around Sepang area... Argghh, damn ulu place.... even with the address is useless!! The roads there are all kelam kabut wan la, you wont be able to tell what road your are on... = = End up in places like Salak Tinggi la, halfway to Banting la, all sorts of kampung(s) laa and so on and on.... really kenot tahan.. wasted so much petrol.. haih..

In the end, suddenly spotted my company's logo and end up in a plantation. Manage to ask some workers there and luckily, one of them lead me to the actual place. Well, the place is just located next to the Sepang F1 circuit. OMG

Passed by it a few times earlier but still missed it... but at least the place is nice. The main building is quite futuristic in design hehehe and the place is quite new I think... but forget to take picture.. later lerr.. =p

And so it is all settled, I do not need to fear that I might be late on my first day working because I sesat haha. The only thing left to consider is should I shift there to save on petrol and toll $$$? Maybe I should. =p

Just to show where I went.... =p Some place I even ended up there twice.. hehe

Reach home around 2pm and off I went again to KL to buy some computer stuff. Hang around in Times Square and Low Yat before going back in the evening jam.

And all this was done although I did not sleep the night before wahahaha... so that makes me very very very tired and thus after dinner... went straight to bed.

Work II

I think I am becoming nocturnal? Arghhh, I am starting work soon and yet I am still staying up at night..

Can't seem to get back to the 'normal' way of life. I suppose this is the result of being too long in the 'holiday' mood hehe.. Sleeping at odd times during the day, staying up whole night, guess these will all change by next week....

Up at 6am and to bed before 12am... like during school times... tsk tsk.. =p

Work

Hi there,

This blog of mine has been abandoned real long.. what to do, nothing to post ma.. =p
Had been attending interviews for the past few months, can't really seem to get a good offer..
Most of the jobs are related to sales sales sales and sales AND marketing!!

Other than that, was relaxing at home.. =)

Grrr!!! Why is it so hard for science grads here to get a 'related to what I study in uni' kind of employment (with decent pay also la =p). Hmm, tried applying using job sites like Jobstreet.com. Found a few suitable positions but got over 150 to 200 applications for each. Competition is so ridiculously high! Really SO not enough jobs in Malaysia meh? Until need to be like that? hehehe...

..... to those that plan to major in biotech/biomedical field in the future, maybe I should really advice you all to think again.. =p Only do so if you are really really really interested in doing research and plan to go all the way till PhD level.

If you are not, just go be an accountant or engineer hehe. Jobs are widely available for these two fields. Pay are much better too. XD

Anyway, was lucky enough to land myself an 'acceptable' position. Apparently, I accidentally googled this company up. The Asiatic Center for Genome Technology. It is the biotechnology division of Asiatic Development Berhad, a plantation company which is also a subsidiary of the Genting Group. The company is involve in genomic science and is focusing on the application of genome technology for crop improvement (namely rubber and oil palm) bla bla bla bla =p. Ask me to define what is Genomic? I don't know! I forgot! LOL

Anyway I was offer the position of Scientific Executive there. I am not too sure of the job responsibilities yet as I will only start on the 2nd May. Anyway, the only 'setback' is that I will be based in Sepang near KLIA. Will be involve in the R&D of Jatropha curcas, a plant use in the production of biofuel. Hehe, sounds interesting eh. =) The pay is also so so la, above average pay maybe because I need to work in Sepang. Ya, quite ulu I know..

Besides that, got another offer from 1st Base Laboratory as a Lab Officer. I declined that offer. =p

So, will have a few more days of holiday before I begin working. I tell you all I am more than ready now.

Went to Monash today to fill in the paperwork for the student withdrawal application. Went into the library but don't recognize any faces. Can feel the 'emptiness' in there hahaha. Like a lone ranger. Anyway, will get to claim back the deposits paid earlier during the study, quite a huge amount of money there hehe.

Bumped into a few former coursemates later. Meet up with Randy as well and had lunch at Wendy's. A new fast-food restaurant in pyramid opposite McD.

Not bad.
